32 Pearls Technology

Digital Radiography:

X-ray procedures are an essential part of quality dental treatment. We utilize an advanced non-film dental imaging system known as CDR (computed dental radiography). The already low radiation required for dental radiographs is further reduced by over 80% compared to conventional X-Ray film. Using this system, an electronic sensor produces computerized radiographs which appear instantly on a Chair side computer screen. These images can then be optimized, printed and Archived indefinitely.

Nickel-Titanium Instruments:

Cleaning and shaping of the root canal is aided by the use of metal instruments made of a unique and flexible alloy of nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) which has high resistance to fracture due to its ‘Shape Memory effect’. We use both hand and rotary instruments along with antimicrobial agents in liquid and gel state as irrigants which helps remove infected tissue, bacteria and debris.
Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) MTA is a hydrophilic biomaterial derived from a mixture of refined Portland Cement and bismuth oxide and other compounds , which is a new advancement in root canal treatment. We use MTA for a variety of root repairs under the microscope (root furcations and Lateral Perforation repairs). It is used in situations with young patients (pulp capping in apexogenesis, an apical plug in apexification, pulpotomy and pulp regeneration). MTA is also used as a root end filling during microsurgery. Current literature supports its use as a biocompatible material with excellent resistance to microleakage. Recently, MTA is being used as a coronal plug over the induced blood clot in tooth ‘Revascularisation procedures’.

3-D CBCT:

A CBCT scan, also called cone beam computerized tomography, is a 3-D X-ray technique that is similar to medical CT scans. We use CBCT to produce 3-D images of the tooth and/or maxillofacial area in question. These images are in three dimension (unlike the conventional 2-D x-ray techniques) and can be manipulated with the computer to visualize root canal anatomy, root fractures, bone damage or irregularities or any lesion/pathology in the tooth or area in question, all in three dimension. The greater and detailed information obtained with CBCT helps in accurate diagnosis and better treatment results.

Bioceramic Sealer:

This is a flowable root canal sealer that utilizes bioceramic nanotechnology. Nano particle size allows it to flow readily into canal irregularities and even dentinal tubules with absolutely no shrinkage. This hydrophilic sealer uses moisture naturally present in dentin to initiate and complete its setting reaction, and it is antibacterial during setting due to its highly alkaline pH. This significantly decreases the chance of root canal failure.

The Problem of Plaque

Your teeth are covered with a sticky film of bacteria called plaque. Following a meal or snack, the bacteria release acids that attack tooth enamel. Repeated attacks can cause the enamel to break down, eventually resulting in cavities. Plaque that is not removed with through daily brushing and cleaning between teeth can eventually harden into calculus, or tartar. Brushing and cleaning between teeth become more difficult when tartar collects above the gum line.

The gum tissue can become irritated and inflamed. Gums may become swollen or may bleed. This is called gingivitis, the early stage of periodontal (gum) disease. The good news is that gingivitis is reversible with professional teeth cleaning in the dental office and good care at home. If gum disease is left untreated, the gums may pull away from the teeth and form pockets that usually become infected. Without treatment, bone loss can occur and teeth may become loose, fall out or require extraction. Twice-daily brushing and cleaning the teeth daily with floss or other inter dental cleaners help remove food particles and plaque from the mouth and are essential in preventing both tooth decay and gum disease

Cleaning between your teeth

Break off about 18 inches of floss and wind most of it around one of your middle fingers.
Wind the remaining floss around the same finger of the other hand. This finger will take up the floss as it is used.
Hold the floss tightly between your thumbs and forefingers, with about an inch of floss between them. Leaving no slack. Gently slide the floss between your teeth. Do not jerk or snap the floss into the gums.
When the floss reaches the gum line, curve it into a C-shape against one tooth. Gently slide it into the shape between the gum and tooth until you feel resistance.
Hold the floss against the tooth. Gently rub the side of the tooth, moving the floss away from the gum.
Don't forget to floss the back of the last tooth. This is a critical area where plaque often collects

Make Great Impressions with Healthy Smiles

Brushing Basics

Place the toothbrush at a slight angle toward the gums when brushing along the gum line.
Use a gentle touch. It doesn't take much pressure to remove the plaque from your teeth, and vigorous scrubbing could irritate your gums.
Clean all the surfaces of the teeth - the inner (tongue side) tooth surface.
The chewing surfaces…
And the inside of the front teeth.
Gently brush your tongue - including the back - to help remove bacteria that cause bad breath.

Full Mouth Scaling

The dental scaling is carried out by the experienced dentists by using modern techniques only. Despite our best efforts, brushing twice a day does not remove all the plaque in our mouths.

Dental cleaning procedures differ although they all have the same purpose: good oral health. There are several different cleanings offered at our office. By measuring your gum tissue the dental hygienist determines how healthy your gums are and what cleaning is right for you.

SCALING AND ROOT PLANING
Deep or full-mouth scaling is an intense professional teeth cleaning, often recommended as treatment for patients who have high risk of gum disease. More involved than a regular teeth cleaning, scaling refers to removing the hard substance called calculus that lives under the gum tissue in your mouth. Some medical doctors will prescribe antibiotics prior to a deep cleaning procedure.

Before the Procedure
It is important to inform your dental center or dentist of any medications or supplements you are taking prior to having the dental cleaning performed.

How a Deep Dental Scaling is Performed
A dental hygienist will begin the dental deep-cleaning by providing a local anesthetic to help numb the area where they will be working. Many times the procedure will be divided into multiple appointments so different areas of the mouth can thoroughly be cleaned at each appointment. Once the patient is numb, the hygienist will begin removing the buildup deep below the gumline using high-tech, ultrasonic vibration tools and other dental instruments. It may feel as if the tartar is being chipped off of each tooth, but the local anesthetic will ensure that you’re not in any pain.

After the Procedure
When the process is finished, the patient may feel some soreness or areas that are tender. Deep scaling is especially beneficial for those patients experiencing symptoms of gingivitis, such as bleeding gums.

A Deep Cleaning for your Teeth

Deep cleanings are normally recommended by your dentist if you are showing signs of gum disease in a comprehensive periodontal evaluation. Comprehensive periodontal evaluations should be done at least once a year, as they test individuals for major dental issues including, but not limited to, periodontal disease.
Once a test is administered and your dentist decides that you need a dental cleaning, your dental hygienist or dentist removes plaque and tartar from your teeth above and below the gum line. Deep cleaning involves the same removal of tartar and plaque at and below the gum line as well as careful cleaning of the roots’ surfaces known as root planing.
If your dentist thinks good oral care at home isn’t enough to manage your mild gingivitis, he or she might also recommend a deep cleaning. It is almost always the first line of treatment for the more advanced forms of gum disease. Deep cleanings ultimately help patients avoid more drastic treatments for gum disease, which if left untreated could possibly lead to tooth loss.

Certain foods help to keep your smile bright and healthy!

According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, certain foods naturally cleanse, brighten, and defend against bacteria that can harm your teeth and gums.
The following 10 foods were recommended by the academy for a healthy, brighter smile.
•    Pineapples can help whiten teeth. Pineapples contain an enzyme called bromelain, which acts as a natural stain remover.  Bromelain also helps break up plaque.
•    Ginger can protect against periodontal disease, an inflammatory process that causes the loss of bone and supportive connective tissue in your mouth.
•    Carrots contain vitamin A, which is needed for healthy tooth enamel.  Eating them raw stimulates saliva, your mouth’s natural cleanser.
•    Basil is a natural antibiotic that reduces bacteria in the mouth.
•    Cheese is rich in protein, calcium, and phosphorus, all of which help reduce acid in your mouth.
•    Sesame seeds help “scrub” away the plaque on your teeth.  Chewing nuts can also provide this coarse scrubbing action.  Sesame seeds also contain bone and teeth-strengthening calcium.
•    Shiitake mushrooms contain a compound called lentinan, which inhibits bacteria from growing in your mouth.
•    Onions contain the sulfur compounds, thiosulfinates and thiosulfonates, which reduce bacteria that cause tooth decay.  Eating them raw is a must as cooking will destroy these tooth-friendly compounds.
•    Salmon not only provides calcium but also vitamin D, another nutrient needed for healthy bones and teeth.
•    Broccoli contains iron, which helps form an acid-resistant film or barrier that can protect the enamel of your teeth.

Why You Should Choose to Whiten your Teeth!

In today’s day and age, the importance of general appearances have become more and more prominent. With that, one way to vastly improve anyone’s appearance is to simply have their teeth whitened. As you know, over the years, your teeth become more and more run down from everyday occurrences.

Some reasons your teeth may be yellowing include:
•    The natural aging process
•    Using tobacco (smoked or chewed), drinking coffee, tea,
•    Colas or red wine, and eating pigmented foods such as cherries and blueberries
•    Accumulation of plaque and tartar deposits
•    Ingesting too much fluoride (more than 2 parts fluoride per million parts water) when teeth are forming, which gives teeth a “mottled” look
•    Treatment with the antibiotic tetracycline during childhood
•    Trauma to the teeth that may cause a brown, gray or black color
Whatever the case, everyone’s teeth yellows eventually. If you’re looking to enhance your overall appearance, here are some reasons why teeth whitening will help:
•    The boost to your confidence and self-esteem that comes from a great smile
•    A younger appearance
•    A special event such as a wedding, job interview or class reunion
•    To make a positive first impression on others
•    To simply reverse years of everyday staining and yellowing

If your teeth are stained or yellowing call Advanced Dental Center today for an appointment to have   your teeth whitened. Achieve a youthful appearance and a stunning smile. Call 9235410558or visit our website at www.32pearlsdentalclinic.org.
